Water quality has been mostly good with a little silt at times. The temperature has remained fairly steady. There has been no bait around. The bite has improved some over last week but still slow. We have definitely entered the winter pattern.
Bluefish were the only plentiful catches other than Puffers. The Blues were prowling in schools eating most anything they could. If you fished the bottom near the end of the pier, Puffers would destroy your bait in seconds.
Red Drum, Sheepshead and an occasional Flounder were caught but you had to be patient and persistent. Sand Fleas, live Shrimp and Ghost Shrimp were your best choices for bait. Vince, Paul and John were rewarded for their persistence.
Skinny water was where the silty water remained. A few Whiting and a couple of Pompano hit the deck during the week. Sand Fleas were the ticket. Paul and I delt with the heavy mist Sunday and managed a couple of Pompano. The bite started quick but also ended quickly as the surfers moved in on top of out rigs.
The forecast for the next few days does not look inviting for anglers but it gives us an opportunity to enjoy time with family and friends. Merry Christmas!
Water temperature: 61-64
