We had a good week with good water clarity although the temperature remained under 60 degrees. We are still missing our winter Bonita run and no bait schools have been around either. Squid have begun to show in greater numbers. Several anglers targeted them yesterday evening and had good results. George sent me a couple of shots of the ones he got.

Red Drum were our primary catch with several fish in the slot. Fresh Squid and Ghost shrimp seemed to be your best choice for bait fished on a Carolina rig. Casey decked a few nice fish along with Paul. I managed only one fish and it looked like it had been in a battle for it’s life. Casey recognized it as a fish he had caught a couple of days earlier, due to the injuries it had. One of Paul’s fish already had a hook with a leader in it’s mouth along with his. Who says they will not eat again soon after they are caught…

Sheepshead were few and far between. Paul, Mikel,Casey and several others had targeted them during the week with little results. Sunday afternoon, we were down to our last couple of live shrimp when Paul spotted a nice Sheepshead feeding on the piling. He dropped our last shrimp down and got a hit right away. Paul made a quick fight pay off and invited his catch for dinner.
Spring is just a few weeks off and Cobia anglers are already getting excited. Several have been on the pier during the week getting in their casting practice and testing the action of their new jigs.
Water temperature: 58-61
