How Low Can You Go

Event Start Date: 2024/01/25

2024/01/25

You might think we were playing the game; how low can you go when looking at our water temperatures this period. We dropped to 52.9 degrees Monday morning and never got above 57.2 all seven days. Our water quality was from semi-clear to dirty. Given these conditions, you can imagine it was a tough week for the anglers. The pier was empty a lot. However, the weather changed today and is supposed to be warmer for the next several days. We are exchanging the cold air for rain.

A few braved the conditions, and a few fish were decked. The numbers were very low but there were Whiting, Red Drum, Flounder, Sheepshead, Bluefish and Squid caught. Chuck managed to get two slot Red Drum, on different days, that he invited for dinner. Dennis, from Canada, decked a nice Sheepshead.

Daily activity:

Thursday: water temp 56.1 – 54.7 – 57.2 A few Whiting late in the day and some Squid. The water was clearing but started getting rough near sunset.

Friday: water temp 54.7 – 58.1 One short Flounder. One Red Drum hooked but lost.

Saturday: water temp 54.9 – 56.5 ChuckO got a 26” slot Red in the freezing temps.

Sunday: water temp 53.6 – 54.9

Monday: water temp 52.9 – 55.4 A Red Drum

Tuesday: water temp 55.6 – 56.5 Two Red Drum, a Sheepshead, a Whiting and a Bluefish.

Wednesday: water temp 56.7 – 55.9 Two Red Drum.

Red Tide status: The red tide organism, Karenia brevis, was not observed in samples collected statewide over the past week.
