Rough And Dirty

Event Start Date: 2024/06/20

2024/06/20

Most of the week the water clarity was good. Monday evening the wind started howling. By Tuesday morning and today the water was trashed. Bait had been thick but left when the dirty water came in.  Water temperature hovered in the mid-80’s.  We caught the following species: King Mackerel, Spanish Mackerel, Tarpon, Bluefish, Ladyfish, Hardtails, Bonita, Mahi, Cigar Minnows, Threadfin Herring and Alewives.

Tarpon schools continue to move through, and some are feeding. Stump hooked one Thursday and had a good fight. Kim was working a Gotcha Tuesday afternoon when she got hit by a Tarpon. It was a short fight with only one jump. The fish then quickly spooled her and broke off. Several others were hooked during the week. Most fish hit swim baits. Here’s Stump all bowed-up:

Spanish Mackerel were caught until the water got dirty. However, King Mackerel were missing except for Monday. There were 5 bites with 3 small fish (6 to 8 pounds) decked. One was lost to “Flipper” and one to a pulled hook.

Saturday afternoon brought a few small Mahi.

Tuesday and today were full of Ladyfish and Hardtails. Quang got the only other fish caught. He was working his Sabiki for Hardtails and got a legal Pompano.
