Another beautiful weather week and emerald green water. Bait began to show in numbers with Cigar Minnows, Scaled Sardines and Alewives. Water temps hovered near 72 and a few new species were seen. Groups of Manatees, a few huge Manta Rays, a few King Mackerel and even one day with a few Mahi were present. Covid 19 social distancing is still in play but businesses are beginning to open with special provisions in place.
We have a new yellow line on the outer Tee to denote : NO bottom rigs, sabikis, carts, coolers, tackle bags, chairs, umbrellas, etc., between the painted yellow line and the rail.
The King Mackerel bite has been cooler than the weather but a only few were hoisted onto the deck, Big Spanish Mackerel came through in small groups and with lots of teasing, would finally eat. A few Mahi showed one morning with several hooked. At least one made onto the deck. Schools of big Jack Crevelle moved past the pier several times during the week but showed no interest in eating. Lots of Hardtails and Ladyfish were present all week. Sheepshead were occasionally here but getting one to bite was beyond most angler’s patience. Red Drum have been hanging near and under the pier in small schools and quite a few both slot and over-slot gave anglers a challenge. Pompano have gotten scarce again and the bite has trickled to almost nothing.
