The water has been beautiful with good winds and almost perfect temperatures. Bait is here in mass including Cigar minnows, Spanish Sardine, Threadfin Herring and Alewives. Hardtails and Ladyfish are thick. With all this you would think the Kings would be chewing the pier down. However, they are not here in numbers. A few were caught throughout the week but our friend “Flipper” has been a constant pest. Several days he was around most of the day eating everything we tossed.
Thursday, Evan put his first King of the year on the deck. Then Von closed his week with a nice 24 pound fish. Several other small Kings were gaffed during the week along with a few that either shot the pilings or had the hook to pull. Fresh bait out fished the plastics.
Spanish were hit and mostly miss. Small schools of larger Spanish were passing through but were tough to coax a bite from. Gotchas and spoons got some attention but getting enough for a meal was tough. Here is one Jose was able to tease a bite from:
Reds and a few Pomps were around in skinny water. Fresh Sand Fleas seemed to be the bait of choice.
