The beautiful water we have been enjoying and that began the first half of this report came to an end Saturday with Cristobal sending tropical waves, rain and high winds to our area. By Sunday afternoon the waves were breaking before the end of the pier and the clarity was like pea soup. That lasted until today as the water began to return to a more normal color.
Tarpon have continued to move by the pier with only a few bites. The Alewives have disappeared and have not returned yet. Hopefully as the Alewives return the Tarpon bite will improve. The tournament is getting off to a slow start.
Kings and Spanish seem to have gone with the Alewives. Only a few Spanish were caught all week and I am not aware of any Kings hitting the deck.
Friday, before the water got trashed, Mickel got a great shot on a couple of chicken Mahi that swam across the front of the pier. Mickel was able to land one but no one could get the other one to eat.
Skinny water produced a couple of Red Drum and several Pompano. Steve was able to get a limit of fish the first half of the week and I managed one yesterday and four today. Fresh Sand Fleas were the go to bait.
