Our water temperature has dropped with the slightly shorter days and the abundant rain. Bait has been Alewives, Hardtails and Pin fish. The Tarpon bite has slowed but they are still moving through. A few were hooked and lost with a couple more brought pier side and released. Kings were almost completely absent but Spanish have filled the void. I did manage to hook a small King on my Tarpon rig today only to have it bite through my mono leader as I tried to lift it onto the deck. Ladyfish were feeding most afternoons. No Sailfish or Mahi spotted this week. The water clarity has been good but has a way to go to be typical emerald coast status.
The weekend was busy both with pier population and with Spanish Mackerel. Many anglers had their limits in short order. Most fish were in the 12 to 14 inch size. They were feeding on Gotchas, Bubble rigs and small fresh bait. Mark had good luck all weekend. Brenda helped John, visiting from Oklahoma, put several Spanish on the deck.
The past couple of days and today, the Blue fish were thick. Almost anything you put in the water got eaten. They averaged 10-15 inches.
Huge “Bull” Red Drum have been prowling the shallows late afternoon but were finiky. A few of the smaller but still over-slot ones did bite. No keepers were decked.
