We spent most of the week dodging rain storms and “Flipper”. Water clarity was good with plenty of Alewives and baby Hardtails for bait. The Tarpon bite has slowed considerably although a few were hooked. Spanish have been hitting bubble rigs and Gotchas early mornings and afternoons. Bluefish schools were marauding the schools of bait most of the week. Several of the Tarpon anglers were frustrated as the Blues were chomping the tails off their swim baits
King Mackerel were hit or miss as “Flipper” was a constant pest all week. We managed to catch a good number of Kings but lost quite a few to “Flipper”. Live Alewives and X-Raps were successful in getting their attention. Most fish were “scoolies” under 12 pounds. However, we did deck a couple of nice fish up to 21 pounds 6 ounces. Skinny water held lots of Red Drum. Most were big Bulls and were feeding on Pin fish, Alewives and swim baits. Several fish were landed but just as many took the anglers to school. The piling gods claimed their fair share of fish too.
