Thursday through Sunday the water was clean. Heavy rain and wind came in Monday and trashed the water. We also saw a significant drop in the water temperature. The bite followed the water with a decent bite through Sunday then nothing but Ladyfish, Hardtails and Catfish after that. More rain is predicted for the upcoming weekend so who knows what will happen.
Early in the week we saw a decent King bite and several Sailfish were spotted. One Sail was hooked but not landed over the weekend. Mid-afternoon Thursday, I hooked two Kings. The first one was lost at the gaff with a pulled hook. The second one made onto the deck and weighed 19.5#. Live hardtail and a baby Bonita were the bait of choice. Friday would tease us with great conditions. I fished hard fron 9:30 until 6:00 without even seeing a fish. I am frequently asked when is the best time to fish to get the most bites and my standard answer is whenever you can. The bite might only be within a small window of time so you just have to be there with a bait in the water. Friday proved that. I left at 6:00 and from 6:30 to dark, there were eight Kings caught. Nori and Rowell are holding a couple of the fish they caught. They were small but still a catch. Then Saturday brought several more Kings. Here are a couple that Brenda got. David fished through the rain Sunday but it payed off as he landed the largest fish of the week – 26.5#. As for Monday through today, the Kings were absent!
We have had ample bait with tons of Alewives. A good number of baby Bonita were caught mornings and late afternoons. Cigar minnows came in briefly Friday afternoon. There are lots of baby Hardtails.
