Thursday through Sunday Morning was fishable with small Kings, a few Spanish and a small Cobia caught. Friday, we had Cigar minnows, Alewives, Spanish Sardines and a few Threadfin Herring. The water was reasonably clean and 7 or 8 Kings were decked Saturday and again early Sunday. None were big (all scoolies) but we’ll take them. The approaching tropical system began having effects on the conditions Sunday afternoon and it went South from there. By Monday, hurricane Sally was churning and the water was trashed. It was like pea soup and the current was ripping. It was unfishable Tuesday and Wednesday. Wednesday morning we had steady 40 mph winds with gusts to just over 52 mph. The rain had been heavy for 3 days. By Wednesday early afternoon, the winds had dropped a little but were still from 28 to 40 mph. It will take a while to get clean water.

The weekend saw the best action. Brenda decked a King and a small Cobia and Dylan got his first King.
Friday the Pelicans were particularly active and many got tangled with anglers’ lines. At one point, three got wrapped together in one sabiki rig and were hopelessly stuck. The Pelicans had drifted too far for anyone on the pier to help. I am happy to report a call to the pier office got quick response. Joel said he would do what he could to get someone out to rescue them. Within a couple of minutes two Lifeguards on jet skis responded. They were able to get two of the birds freed quickly but had to take the third to shore for rehab. KUDOS and Thanks to Bay County Parks and Rec. personnel for their actions that surely saved the Pelicans from a slow and cruel death.
Big temperature changes are forecast beginning next weekend. We dropped over 5 degrees in water temp this week. With the dirty water and drop in temps, we will certainly have to use our best fishing skills to generate any action ant time soon.
