We just cannot get a break with clean water. We started out Thursday and Friday with Dark tea colored water and entered the weekend with dirty water again. The past couple of daye the quality is returning but still needs to settle out more. We are still ranging fom 77 to 80 degrees and bait has been Threadfin Herring and Alewives.
Where are the Kings and Spanish. There have been a few Spanish but not in numbers we would expect this time of year. There was one lonely King decked for the 7 day period. Here is how the bite broke down: Thursday- 8th zero; Friday – 3 bites with one decked and one hook pull, Saturday- 4 bites with none caught; Sunday through Wednesday- zero. I got the lone fish Friday on an Alewife. It weighed 17.0 pounds.
Even though the Kings were not cooperating, the end Tee was not completely dead. A couple of days the Bull Red Drum were lurking. Anthony, one of our regulars from North Carolina brought two Reds to the pier Tuesday. Both were over slot. The first one (32”) was netted for a quick photo and released. The second appeared to be (30”). Just as we got ready to net it, “Flipper” charged in and “took custody” of the Red. Today, I got a (34”) Bull on a live Alewife. It too was released after a quick photo.
Other action included Sharks, Ladyfish, Gafftop Catfish; small Pompano and a Flounder.
