It is time to get off the couch and get to the pier. What a week with decent water conditions and warmer temps after we started cool, windy and dirty. More species of fish are being caught and the Spanish have arrived in mass. Squid are still around, the first Cobia is decked from the County, Red Drum, Pompano and even a few small Whiting are baing caught.
Spanish have arrived and the bite has been great. You have no excuse not to get your limit in short order. The age of the angler made no difference this week as bucket and cooler fulls of Spanish were toted off the pier. Large Sabikis were the hot choice with Gotchas, Spoons and Bubble Rigs getting good action too. The deck was littered with them as you can see in the picture. Brenda shows her catch for about an hours work and even Fred Jr. put fish in the cooler.
Last Thursday was our toughest conditions to start this week. Teddy from Illinois hung in there and decked a “Big Ugly”. It was quite a challenge getting it into the landing net given the rough water and wind. He hung in there and got a great reward with this picture.
We started the week fairly slow for Red Drum but finished with a bang. Ryan from Georgia got it started with an over slot fish. Then Paul showed us young anglers who had the touch and put several “Bulls” on the deck over the last three days. He was even live on Bay County Outdoors Facebook page. Then today he decked two over 36 inches. Mike got two as well. They were heartbreakers as one measured 28” and the other 27.5”. Both were just over slot and were released. Large Sand Fleas and fresh Squid was the bait of choice.

The County finally broke the Cobia ice today when David B. decked the first one for the season. He was all alone on the end tee when the fish came in. Fortunately Paul C. was able to get Jeffery’s attention to bring a gaff. Quick work and good gaff placement and the fish was on the deck.
Pompano have been around for a while but the bite was cold until today. They came in waves but were consistent all afternoon. Steve M was hooking them two at a time. Will was headed to lunch but had to get in on the action. Then Ron “Black Cloud” was fishing his last day and last hour for his trip when he decked a keeper. What a great way to complete a long visit to PCB.
