Water temperature is right. Water Clarity is great. Wind is acceptable but no bait until this afternoon (Wednesday). Cobia out number Kings. Pompano out number Spanish even though there were a lot of Spanish. Black Drum schools were passing by. A few Red Drum were caught. One nice Tripletail decked and a few Squid still hanging around. The first Hard Tails and Remora were caught Tuesday. Fishing is on!
Tommy started the King season with his 30 pound smoker last week and decked another nice fish yesterday (13th). A Shimano Colt Sniper lure (Bone) got the job done. It hit the scale at 20 ¾ pounds. Most of the week was slow for Kings. However, Saturday morning before the storms and the water spout that went over the pier, the bite went off for a short window of time. Bait and lures were hot with 10 fish decked. Several others were either missed or lost. Dan S. got his limit of three in short order. Check the beautiful daybreak background in Dan’s picture.
Cobia are coming through every day. At least 8 were decked this week with a few more lost. No big fish have been caught yet but 19 to 30 pounds has been the range. Hunter; James W, Matt M, Jackson Z, Brandon M, Ned E. and a couple more anglers each put fish on the deck. Four fish were decked after the official start of the Tournament but the anglers were not registered. Jackson Z. has caught one before the tourney began and weighed in the first fish for the Tournament today (14th).
Black Drum schools have been passing around the pier at random this week. The Cobia anglers were the first to spot them as they have their eyes glued to the water looking for Mr. Brown Suit. Jackson jacked one on his jig the 12th. And then today Tiger, Nick and Will hooked a triple on their jigs.
It is rare that we even see a Trippletail much less catch one from the pier. Sunday, Geo was working his Gotcha vertical beside the pier as the Spanish were hanging beside the pier. Out of the blue, a 9 ½ pound Trippletail shot from a piling and hit the Gotcha. You never know what you will see or catch pier fishing.
Skinny water has been on fire. Pompano catches have been unbelievable with multiple anglers catching their limit daily. Rail space is a premium. Expect to spend time tangled with your fellow angler if you join the Pompano game.
BAY COUNTY OUTDOORS in cooperation with Bay County Recreation is promoting a Cobia Pier Tournament. The Registration is FREE and the registration form is on BCO web page. It is simple to register and only requires your Name and Email. You can enter your fish beginning 04-09-2021 and the close of the Tournament will be May 22nd. at 5:00 p.m. Here is a link:

Tournament prizes will be from additional sponsors: Rapala; Suffix; VMC; DOA and Grudens. There will be three places:
1st: $500.00 equivilent of tackle
2nd: $350.00 equivilent of tackle
