REMINDER:
BAY COUNTY OUTDOORS in cooperation with Bay County Recreation is promoting a Cobia Pier Tournament. The Registration is FREE and the registration form is on BCO web page. It is simple to register and only requires your Name and Email. Entry began 04-09-2021 and the close of the Tournament will be May 22nd. at 5:00 p.m. Here is a link:

Tournament prizes will be from additional sponsors: Rapala; Suffix; VMC; DOA and Grudens. There will be three places:
1st: $500.00 equivilent of tackle
2nd: $350.00 equivilent of tackle
3rd: $150.00 equivilent of tackle
I will be the Tournament Official to Weigh and record all entries. If I am not on the pier, you can call me at 770-267-2879. BCO said if you are lucky and have multiple fish, you can win in 1 or all 3 catagories. In case of a tie, the first fish weighed will take the lead in that catagory. The fish must be caught on the M.B. Miller Pier and all FWC laws and regulations must be followed.
Tournament leaders changed a couple of times this week. We began with Jackson Z. in first place with his 22 pound 4 ounce fish. Then, Friday Jackson put his second fish, 14 pounds 1 ounce, on the deck and took both first and second place. Jacob H. hit a nice fish Saturday afternoon that weighed 39 pounds 6 ounces and took the lead. That bumped Jackson to 2nd and 3rd place. Today, Wednesday, Casey struck early morning with a 15 pound 6 ounce fish and took the third place spot. Late Wednesday afternoon, Dan S. jacked a legal fish but it fell a little light to make the board. August R. put a nice fish on the deck Monday afternoon but had not registered for the Tournament. His fish came with a little excitement as the side plate and handle of his reel came off at the beginning of the fight. All was not lost due to quick work by his fellow anglers. One hand lined the fish long enough for others to cut and splice August’s line to another reel allowing the fight to continue.
CURRENT STANDINGS TOURNAMENT SCOREBOARD:
First place: Jacob H. 39 pounds 6 ounces
Second place: Jackson Z. 22 pounds 4 ounces
Third place: Casey B. 15 pounds 6 ounces
Friday was Bonita bonanza day as a minimum of 100 Bonita hit the deck. It was mass confusion on the end of the pier with several Bonita hooked at a time. The deck was littered with fish. Many more were lost due to tangles and pilings. Here is a short video of some of the action.
Friday was Bonita and Saturday the Kings were chewing. The weather was supposed to be thunderstorms and erain all day but it never rained. The wind was howling and the King bite was hot. The rail was crowded but several fish were decked before the bite ended. Dan decked the largest fish at 30 pounds and his son Reid captured himself a nice 17 pound King. Bill S. got his first King of the year and George joined the group. The Kings were not through for the week and a few more hit the deck as the week progressed. Wednesday morning produced a couple of fish as Bill H. and Brandon both got fish. Bill’s fish was 20.5 pounds. Then the bite was over.
Tuesday was big Spanish day. The bite was on using Cigar minnows. Too many to count hit coolers ranging up to 4.4 pounds. Lots of fish over 2 pounds were caught. Marty decked the 4.4 pound Spanish.
Skinny water and the outer sand bar continues to produce good catches of Pompano. Jigs, Sand fleas and Live shrimp caught fish. Kyle and Sherry C. caught their first Pomps and are now hooked.
