BAY COUNTY OUTDOORS in cooperation with Bay County Recreation is promoting a Cobia Pier Tournament. The Registration is FREE and the registration form is on BCO web page. It is simple to register and only requires your Name and Email. Entry began 04-09-2021 and the close of the Tournament will be May 22nd. at 5:00 p.m. Here is a link:

Tournament prizes will be from additional sponsors: Rapala; Suffix; VMC; DOA and Grudens. There will be three places:
1st: $500.00 equivalent of tackle
2nd: $350.00 equivalent of tackle
3rd: $150.00 equivalent of tackle
I will be the Tournament Official to Weigh and record all entries. If I am not on the pier, you can call me at 770-267-2879. BCO said if you are lucky and have multiple fish, you can win in 1 or all 3 categories. In case of a tie, the first fish weighed will take the lead in that category. The fish must be caught on the M.B. Miller Pier and all FWC laws and regulations must be followed.

Tournament leaders remained the same. There was a Cobia caught but it was just shy of being in the minimum length. Layner got it on a Gotcha on the 6th. It was 31 inches and was released after a quick photo.
CURRENT STANDINGS TOURNAMENT SCOREBOARD:
First place: Jacob H. 39 pounds 6 ounces
Second place: Kelly P. 25 pounds 7 ounces
Third place: Jackson Z. 22 pounds 4 ounces
King action was sporadic with several days a total miss. The 6th and 7th seemed to be our best days with several fish decked each day. Mike, who had not pier fished in about two years landed the big fish for the week. He was drifting a dead Cigar minnow when the strike was so hard it split the water with his line. His old habits came back to him as he successfully brought his 39 pound 5 ounce “smoker” to the gaff. A little while later, Mr. Lynn caught his first ever King. George landed two and I got one. The 10th, Joe C. decked the second best King of the week at 28 pounds. Several “scoolies” were caught as well.
Big Spanish were thick most of the week. Both lures and natural bait got you a bite. Many anglers got their limit on more than one day during the week. Shawn landed the biggest Spanish on the 6th that weighed 6 pounds. Joshua put several nice ones in his cooler too.
Skinny water produced action as well. The Pompano bite has tapered off to a crawl but not before Brenda got her limit one evening. She was using live Sand Fleas. Her first 5 were fairly quick but she had to work for an hour to get that sixth one. Red Drum were prowling under the pier too. I was able to convince several to eat live Sand Fleas on both the 11th and 12th.
One unusual catch was made on the 9th. We see them fairly often but they are usually small. Chih caught this big Look Down on her Sabiki.
