BAY COUNTY OUTDOORS sends a big thanks to everyone who participated in the first Pier Cobia Tournament. We had 81 anglers registered. A special thanks goes to Travis Barbee, Division Manager, and Bay County Recreation for their support. Of course, this would not have been possible without the sponsors: Rapala; Suffix; VMC; DOA and Grudens who provided the prizes for the top three anglers.

First place: Jacob H. 39 pounds 6 ounces ($500.00 in gear)
Second place: Kelly P. 25 pounds 7 ounces ($350.00 in gear)
Third place: Jackson Z. 22 pounds 4 ounces ($150.00 in gear)
Keep watch for the announcement of the Fall Bay County Outdoors Pier King Mackerel Tournament. It will be very similar to the Cobia tournament and will run for approximately six weeks during September and October.
This week’s fishing was a bit slower. The bait, wind and water clarity have been what we all hope for but the fish thought otherwise. Jack Crevalle schools came through most days with as many as five hooked at once. There were Spanish and Kings but the bite was painfully slow. If you were only targeting Kings, you spent most of your time waiting for a bite. One small but legal Cobia was gaffed and a tiny one was released. The Hardtails, Ladyfish and Bluefish were here in mass. Sabikis were the most productive but bubble rigs, spoons and flies worked too. Rabbit fish (Smooth Puffer) have been more active than usual and Norito decked a big Baracuda. A few Red Drum and Pompano hit the deck as well.
Here is a quick synopsis of action during the week. Tadd got the action started on the 20th with his first-ever pier King. Nory and Jayden who was visiting from Dallas, Ga., each decked Jack Crevelles 17 lb. 4 oz. and 10 lb 9 oz on the 21st. Dan and his son Reid caught a Cobia on the last day of the tournament but it was a tad shy to place. Nory scored again on the 23rd with another Jack. Brandon made quick work catching some nice Spanish on the 24th. I finally caught a Red Drum on the 24th that went back since it was over-slot. Nory put a 19 lb Baracuda on the deck yesterday the 25th. Today there was only Spanish caught.
