Dredging and beach renourishment continues on the west end of the beach. Water quality was the same dark tanic color until Friday afternoon. We had good water for the weekend with Sunday being the cleanest all year. Monday started ok but by mid-afternoon two tide lines came rushing through bringing the dark water again. The rumors about Red Tide are no longer rumors. The latest testing by the FWC (9-27-21) indicated medium level of Karenia Brevis in a sample from Inlet Beach and low concentration at Saint Andrews. To put that in perspective, low concentration means between 10,001 to 100,000 cells per liter and medium is 100,001 to 1,000,000 cells per liter. Bait fish and other small fish continue to be around. We have had Spanish Mackrel, Blue fish Ladyfish, Yellow tail Jacks, Hard tails and Choffers still hanging around. There has been no fish kills in our area to date.
A few Spanish Mackerel were caught each day but the best catches were Tuesday and Wednesday. Gotchas, bubble rigs, small lures and sabiki rigs were your best options although a couple of fish were caught on live small Alewives. A few fish were approaching 4 pounds. Wednesday the Blues were bigger than usual.
Wednesday morning a tourist had a live bait soaking in skinny water hoping for a
Red Drum. Out of the blue, a large Cobia hit her bait and proceeded to spool her reel. A couple of other anglers verified the report saying the Cobia was at least 50 pounds. It is amazing we have had more Cobia since the King tournament started than Kings.
The BCO 1st King Tournament continues with 92 anglers registered as of 09-29-21. We are at day 20 with the leader board empty. Again, there were zero Kings for the week. Bay County Outdoors (BCO) 1st Fall King Mackerel Tournament
BCO, in cooperation with Bay County Recreation, is sponsoring a King Mackerel Tournament September 10th through October 22, 2021, at the M. B. Miller (County) Pier. Registration is FREE and open to all anglers fishing from the M. B. Miller Pier during the tournament. Registration is on-line at WWW.BayCountyOutdoors.com/tournament. Your name, phone number and email are required to register. A registration list will be posted on the BCO and Tournament Official’s Facebook pages. Prizes will be awarded for 1st place - $500.00 and 2nd place - $350.00. All prizes will be gear/tackle provided by sponsors, no cash. Tournament rules:
- Fish must be caught (physically landed on the pier deck by a single angler) by rod and reel while fishing on the M. B. Miller (County) Pier during Tournament times.
- Fish must be landed between the official start and finish dates and times.
- The official catch times are between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
- All fish must be weighed by the Tournament Official to qualify. Prior registration must be completed to enter a fish. Weigh-ins will be between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Sunday through Friday and 1:00 p.m. through 6:00 p.m. on Saturday at M. B. Miler Pier.
- Fish may be caught by natural or artificial bait.
- In case of a tying weight, the first caught and officially entered fish will qualify for that position.
- Anglers may win both 1st and 2nd place with qualifying fish.
- All Florida Wildlife Commission (FWC) laws, rules and regulations must be followed.
- All Bay County Recreation rules and regulations must be followed.
- Any angler found to have violated any of these rules shall be disqualified.
