Red Tide seems to have been pushed off from the pier as there have been no visible (no fish kills) or physical (coughing or burning) indications the past week. However, 3 samples taken in the past 8 days near the Dan Russell (City) Pier resulted in 2 medium and one low sample result for Karenia brevis. No samples were taken near the M. B. Miller (County) pier but 4 samples in Saint Andrews Bay resulted in medium concentration. Water temperature continues to drop slowly so hopefully we are past the worst. Our water clarity has been good and a few Cigar minnows have been caught. Bait is scarce so don’t depend on catching you own at the pier.
Sunday brought a Bonita frenzy. They came in thick and the bite lasted from daybreak until about 09:00. The report was that as many as 50 hit the deck. Brenda and George sent me pictures of their catch.

Kings were absent but Spanish Mackerel were here in limited numbers. Early mornings brought the best bite.
Red and Black Drum made their appearance several times during the week with Tuesday being the best day. Around lunchtime Tuesday, a large school of BIG Black Drum approached the pier migrating south. Two anglers were able to get a bait in front of them as they swam by. James hooked up on a light weight rig and broke off his fish. Dat got a jig inhaled and found out how hard the Drum could fight. He was able to bring the “Big Ugly” to the pier and into the net. It weighed 26.4 pounds. This was Dat’s first ever Drum. Several “Bull” Reds were caught throughout the week. Only a couple other slot fish were caught. Jay C. got this Bull and released it after a quick picture.
A few Flounder have been caught but had to be released as the recreational season is closed until December 01. At least we know there are some around.
There was a rare catch from the Dan Russell (City) Pier. It isn’t the first one caught but still unusual. A legal Gag Grouper decked this week.
