We had another slow week as we approach the new year. The water was clean and reversed last week’s temperature. We started the week at 63 and increased to 67.5 with the unusually warm days. The week’s catches were limited to a few Whiting, Flounder, Red Drum and Pompano. There were also a few Squid caught.
Whiting was the most abundant catch with small ones caught all week. The days only produced a few while some anglers reported catching over 20 after dark. Fresh Shrimp tipped with FishBite was the bait of choice.
Flounder were much more scarce. Only a couple of keepers were decked. Bull minnows seemed to be the best bait choice. Brandon decked the biggest Flattie of the week at 18.5 inches.
The best catch of the week was made by Geovani. We don’t see many Trippletails at the pier and particularly of this size. They are one of the best table fare of anything we catch. Congrats Geo on a nice catch!
Pompano catches have increased but the sizes are still small. One angler caught over a dozen one day only to get three that made the minimum 11 inch requirement.
