The water continues to be beautiful with the typical emerald colors. Finally, the water temperature has reached the low 60’s. Bait schools have not arrived yet but the warmer temps should change that soon. Squid action is fairly good after sunset. A few Flounder are being caught but I stress only a few.
Both Red and Black Drum have been our targets and for the most part have not disappointed us. You still have to be patient and spend considerable time soaking bait but it has paid off. The Reds have been craving fresh Squid and the Blacks Sand Fleas and Shrimp. Our best bite is by locating the schools under the pier and sight fishing them. The down side is they are hard to fight away from the pilings. Several were lost to the pilings during the week. Jesus got a nice Red on the 18th. I had a good week getting 2 on the 18th, 1 the 21st and 1 the 22nd. Brandon got 2 Blacks at the Tee on the 18th and Mikel decked one on the 22nd near the outer sand bar.
Other action included a few Bonnett Head Shark and some Bluefish. A large school of Pompano came in one afternoon and held under the pier near the first Tee for about 30 minutes. I offered a Sand Flea and live Shrimp with zero interest from the Pomps.
