We’ve had a mixed bag of water clarity during the week but it was clean enough for the fish. The water temperature has continued to climb and was 71 this afternoon (Wednesday). A few Kings, lots of Spanish, a few Pompano, a Bonita and some Red Drum were caught.
The biggest King of the year was caught this morning (30th). Norito was drifting a frozen Cigar Minnow when he was hit. After a good battle, he was able to bring the “smoker” to the gaff. This would be Norito’s personal best at 36.1 pounds. Casey had caught his third fish on Monday morning. It weighed 21.8 pounds. Casey has had the lucky horseshoe and has caught 3 of the 5 Kings so far. Several other fish were hooked and lost. Early week lures seemed to be the ticket, but today they wanted natural bait.
Spanish Mackerel have moved in in great numbers. The bite has been sporadic but hot while they are around. Many anglers gor their limits in short order. Brenda was fishing with Eli Saturday, and got their limit. The fish were not picky and ate almost anything you put in the water. This morning the bite was off the scale for about 2 hours. The deck was littered with Spanish.
