Hurricane Ian decided to impact SW Florida leaving us with only 20 MPH wind and no rain. Our water remained clear but did loose a few degrees. We started the morning today at 83 and ended the day at 80. The bite was very slow all week except for Spanish Mackerel after 5:00pm. Kings were absent until today. A few Red Drum were in the shallows and we have begun to see schools of Pompano. There were even a few keeper Pomps caught.
Spanish Mackerel were our main stay this week. The morning bite was OK but the evening bite turned on around 5:30 each day. Several days many anglers caught their limit. Bubble rigs and Gotchas were the most successful.
The King bite continued to be almost zero until today. With the heavy wind kicked up by “Ian”, the Kings came alive. It was the best bite we have had in weeks. Most of the fish were barely legal. Others had to be returned. Natural bait was the preferred offering and Cigar minnows got the majority of the bites. There were a dozen fish decked when I left at 6:15 and they were still biting. Three decent size fish were hooked, but only one of them was decked. It weighed 13 pounds.
Skinny water produced Red Drum and Pompano. There were even a few keeper size Pomps caught. The Red bite was slow but Gary managed to put a “Bull” on the deck.
