Water quality took a hit over the weekend and so did the bite. Water temps ranged from 63.5 to 67.1. The Flounder bite was good the first half of the week but tapered off the last few days. Whiting catches were about the same. A few Bonita were caught Sunday and Tuesday. Cigar minnows were here through Sunday then bait was hard to find. Even the Pin fish were scarce. After the water got stained, catfish were thick. Rowel managed to get an Octopus early week.
Brenda fished hard Sunday morning and struggled to catch anything. She finally managed to put the only Spanish for the week on the deck. She also decked a Bonita.

Tuesday, a few small schools of Bonita were prowling the outer bar. George and Hai decked one each and Robert lost one at the gaff. There were a few other hits but no hook-ups before they disappeared.

Several shark have been caught over the past few weeks and many of us have difficulty distinguishing species. The most common error is determining if you have a Spinner or Black Tip Shark. There is no size limit on a Black Tip where a Spinner must be 54 inches measured tip if nose to fork of tail. A distinguishing feature is that the cloacal/anal fin on the blacktip shark is white whereas the anal fin of the spinner shark has a black tip. Also, the spinner shark differs from the blacktip shark in that its first dorsal fin is slightly more triangular in shape, and is placed further back on the body. This picture shows the difference more clearly:
