We began our week with the water trashed. It stayed dirty until late Saturday. Sunday through Wednesday the water was mostly clean. Bait left when the dirty water came in. The bite was painfully slow all week. Sharks and plenty of Catfish were around until Saturday. A few Red Drum, Flounder, Whiting, and Bonita were hooked. Spanish were seen a couple of times during the week but mostly ignored bait.
Thursday, Mack and his dad were visiting from Newnan, Georgia and decided to try their luck on the pier. I’ll have to say they were much tougher than I was as they only had on a T-shirt and shorts. I was wearing a sweatshirt with my rain jacket to break the wind. Mack was teaching his dad how to fish. After they had been fishing a while and Mack had caught several Catfish on his Spiderman rod and reel, I asked him if he was cold. Through the shivers, he said yes but kept on fishing. He had a great day as you can tell by the smile in this shot of him and a Gafftop sail catfish he caught.
Tony, a visiting angler, and Paul managed to coax Red Drum to bite. There had been a few hanging near the pier but showed no interest in our bait. Tony got a 34-inch Bull to hit a Cigar minnow and Paul got an upper-slot fish on a jig. Paul’s fish was invited for dinner.
Bonita schools were working too far out from the pier to reach. Tuesday, a few came close enough briefly, and one fish hit the deck.
