Summer pattern seems to have arrived and the population on the pier has increased. Water conditions have been varied with both clean and silty clarity. The water temperature dropped a little and has varied from 75 to 86 degrees. The weekend gave anglers the best bite of the 7-day period. Red Drum, Spanish Mackerel, Bonita, King Mackerel, Hardtails and Pin fish were the species caught. Live bait has been hard to get other than very early morning.
Saturday brought the best King Mackerel bite for this reporting period. A number of hits were missed but 5 were hooked. Three made it onto the deck with Hobie landing the largest at 15 pounds. Dylan decked a 10 pound fish and Hachid caught a short King. Saturday resulted in only one King hooked but it was lost at the gaff.
The Spanish Mackerel have been around very early mornings most of the week with a few caught during the day today. Most were average to small but keepers. Bubble rigs, Spoons and Gotchas were the best producers.
A few Red Drum were hanging in the shallows but not many anglers were targeting them. Gary B. was back in town and helped Don land a nice 26-inch slot Red.
Bonita have been scarce, but Steve L. was able to find one Sunday. We have seen a lot of bird activity at a distance but the fish they were over didn’t come close enough to reach.
