We finally hit 60 degrees Friday afternoon but dropped below again Wednesday. Wind and rough water trashed the clarity. No bait all 7 days. Squid were MIA except for a brief period Monday afternoon. We had a few hours of clean water off the end of the pier, and I was able to get 6 Squid. Species hooked or caught were: Squid, Red Drum, Croakers, Bluefish, Pompano, Catfish, Whiting and Bonnethead Shark. Several of these were single fish for the 7-day period. It made for long days with an occasional bite. The daily activity tells the sad results.
Tuesday was the best day with A “Bull” Red Drum and two Croakers. Then the Catfish came in and that was the tale for the remainder of the day. Below is a shot of the Red Drum that I decked and released as well as the Croakers that Hai is holding:
Daily activity:
Thursday: water temp 58.5 – 59.5 Dead…nothing
Friday: water temp 59.0 – 60.3 One small Bluefish and one small Whiting.
Saturday: water temp 60.3 – 61.3 Nothing.
Sunday: water temp 61.0 – 62.1 One Pompano and a couple of Bluefish. Water rough, and dirty.
Monday: water temp 62.1 – 63.0 One Red Drum hooked and broken off, and 6 Squid.
Tuesday: water temp 63.0 - 60.6 – 61.3 One Red Drum, 2 Croakers and lots of Catfish. Water very dirty.
Wednesday: water temp 59.0 – 60.8 Two Bonnethead Shark and one Flounder hooked and lost. Water is still dirty from the beach almost to the end of the Pier. Slightly better off the end.
Red Tide status: In Northwest Florida over the past week, K. brevis was not observed.
