One more King
Water temps have fluctuated between 61 and 67 during the past 7 days. Clarity has been good and we had favorable wind. Bonita have been active early mornings with numerous fish being decked. Small Spanish Mackerel are thick and striking Gotchas and Sabiki rigs. They seem to be running deep and are most active early mornings and late afternoon. Sunday brought a surprise when five King strikes happened. They were skying on X-Raps. Jason was the only angler to get hooked-up and deck one of the fish. Then, they were gone again. Other action during the week included Black and Red Drum plus a few Sheepshead.
Friday a small school of Black Drum were milling around on the outer sand bar. Several anglers tempted them repeatedly but they were not taking. Finally, Mark got a fresh Ghost Shrimp in the right spot and hooked one of the big ones. It gave him quite a battle but Mark brought the “Big Ugly” to the landing net. It looked huge. The scales read 23 pounds.
The rest of the week belonged to Paul. Tuesday the conditions were less than fun with wind and cold temps. Paul didn’t let that keep him from bringing home dinner. He had to wait until the end of the day to score but 2 keeper Pompano and one Sheepshead made their way to the cooler. Then Wednesday, he set up just outside of the middle Tee with fresh Ghost Shrimp soaking. He didn’t have to wait long before a Bull Red Drum began peeling line. It was almost an equal battle but Paul held on to win and deck the Red. Towards the end of the day, he decided to target his favorite species. Anyone that knows him has no doubt what happened next.
