Early in the week was warm with decent water clarity and a few fish hit the deck. Then cold air flooded in for the weekend and dropped the water temperature as low as 59. A few Bonita came in with a few willing to bite. Wednesday, the Pompano were thick around the inside Tee. Reports of around 30 were caught. Squid fishermen are still trying but they continue to get little results. Hopefully, this colder and clear water will bring them in.
Thursday the 16th, as Paul and I made our way out the pier, we saw a nice Tripletail hanging near the pilings near the outer sand bar. I quickly tossed a Sand Flea with no interest. Next, I dropped a freshly dead whole shrimp and the fight was on. It was close but the increase size restriction from 15 to 18 inches left us no choice but snap a quick picture and return it to the water. It was 16.5 inches. Our Ghost Shrimp and fresh Shrimp were quickly disappearing off the hook with no indication of a bite. It didn’t take long to figure out it was StarFish cleaning our hooks. Finally, we hit pay dirt and got a top of the Slot Red Drum.
Species caught: Red Drum, Pompano, Bonita and a Tripletail. Bait: Bring your own.
