The angler population on the pier has reflected the bite of late. If you were willing to brave the cold air, early mornings have produced a decent Pompano bite with a Red Drum or two in the mix. The water temperature is at it’s lowest point, so far. Clarity has been excellent but almost no bait is present. Sheepshead are hit and miss but when here, they have been moving between pilings without feeding. A few Bonita have been around with little interest in hitting unless you could place your jig directly in front of them. I am aware of only one Flounder and one Sheepshead caught for the week.
The biggest news is that the Pompano are showing in numbers, when they are around. At least two days, they were thick around the first Tee. Provided you had fresh Ghost Shrimp or live Sand Fleas, you could go home with your limit. As many as 30 were decked one morning and 20 another. It took all day but Rob got his limit Tuesday.
Several anglers have tried their luck jigging for Squid. They are just not here yet. Two small ones were caught one evening.
When you don’t get bit fishing, you get bored and resort to other pass time activity. That is exactly what happened two days. Paul was trying to eat his cracker snack but the Pigeons had a different idea. He had as many as 13 at one time on and around him taking advantage of an opportunity.
