Our water quality continues to look like black coffee. We have had a couple of mornings with green water only to get pushed out and replaced with the dark water as the afternoon tide line moved through . Live bait options were a few Alewives, Goggle Eyes and lots of small Hardtails. The water temperature had been hovering 85-86 degrees but has dropped a couple of degrees. The King bite has been MIA. Lots of Red Drum have been in the shallows and Ladyfish were plentiful everywhere.
We are 5 days into the Tournament with zero Kings entered. There was one decent King caught on Sunday. Caleb M. Was drifting a dead Cigar minnow when he got a strike. Caleb was able to successfully bring his fish to the gaff. It hit the scale at 21.18 pounds and would have been a great starting point for the Tournament. Unfortunately, Caleb had not yet registered. There would be a few other King hits and two very small fish decked but no entries for the Tourney yet.
Spanish Mackerel were caught but not in great numbers…a few fish each day. Gotchas and bubble rigs worked but most of the fish caught were on sabiki rigs.
