Final Days In The BCO King Tournament

Event Start Date: 2021/10/22

We had a couple of days of clean water only to have the wind and current switch and bring a return of black Bay water. Water temperature has been between 77 and 80 degrees. Bait availability has been hit and miss with small Hardtails, Alewives, a few Goggle Eyes (Big Eyed Scad) and cigar minnows. There continues to be Ladyfish and Blues early mornings and late afternoons. Spanish Mackerel have been slow but a few around. Bubble rigs with small jerk bait or spoons worked best. Skinny water has produced good catches of Red Drum as well as a few Pompano.

The King bite has gotten slightly better with a few fish hitting the deck during the week. Sunday was the best day with Hachid decking 3 “scoolies” and 8 other fish hooked but lost. Two of the 8 would have been contenders in the Touirnqament. Then Tuesday Yuriy decked a fish that was just shy of the 2nd place fish. It was 16.13 pounds. Bill decked the only other fish Tuesday that was around 8 pounds. Wednesday was dead until mid afternoon when a fish about 16 pounds was lost to the pilings. Nory decked the only caught fish that was about 8 pounds. We did witness a hugh King surface and eat a free swimming Ladyfish. This King would have easily taken the lead in the Tournament but vanished as quickly as it appeared. There was no other King action.

We do not see Tripletail very often but late Wednesday afternoon one was spotted. Nori dropped his bait and it ate. Not bad for the pier.
